Selfishness In Marriage

I am writing this blog based on an interesting blog I read just a few moments ago it reminded me of things I use to hear growing up. In this blog the author of the blog wrote about what it takes to make a marriage last long. The author included answers from the husband and wives who had been married from 17 years to 40 something years I believe. A few wives and husbands said keeping the wife happy. I think that answer is a very selfish one and shows there is a lack of love in that marriage.

Come on ladies how selfish can we be when we are married or in a relationship? That is the most selfish thing I have ever heard, ladies we need to do better and show our little girls how to do and be better. Can you show me where in the bible does it say in Marriage the man has to keep the wife happy or vice versa? Where in the bible does it say to be selfish? Marriage won’t last long with that type of mentality. You may wonder well you’re only 23 years old what do you know. I have been married for 4 years and yes I am only 23 but I know what I know from picking up God’s word and studying it. Now I am not saying my husband and I are perfect because we aren’t. Through God, prayer and sacrifice all marriages can and will work I definitely can attest to that. Marriage is not easy and God never said it would be, he actually said it those who marry will face many troubles in 1 Corinthians 7:28

However, love is not selfish! 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, but verse 5 says “It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs.”NIV God tells you what love is in this scripture and to top it of he is the greatest example of love because he is love. I know marriage is hard but it’s also fun to but selfishness can and will drain a marriage. In Ephesians 5:21-33 God tells men to love their wives and women to love and respect their husbands. Are you loving and respecting your husband if you’re always selfish? Is God selfish with you in his and your relationship? I think if we all take a moment daily and ask ourselves if how we treat others, would and do God treats us that way in our relationship with him. There would be way less divorces and sin in the world. I encourage you to talk to God, pray without ceasing for you marriage and your spouse and STUDY God’s word. Everything you need to know is in the bible don’t take my word for it read the bible and see for yourself and ask God to open your heart to receive his message.

God Bless
