The Lord Is My Shepherd

” They are well kept who, God keeps”- Walk Thru The  Bible

Upon having a bible lesson with my toddler called “God is my shepherd” based on Psalm 23 and John 10:1-18. I realized that I didn’t quite understand what this meant before. Sure in church you learn that God is our shepherd but how many of us really listen and take that lesson to heart? There are times where I have felt lost or I was doing something that God didn’t tell me to do or something he didn’t want me to do right then and there and failed at it. I would get so upset and wonder why do I feel lost or why did I fail.

There has been people who have come to me and admitted that they have been through the same things or they feel nothing in their life is going the way they have planned or the way they wanted. Jesus teaches us why this happens with these five words in John 10. I am the Good shepherd.

If you take the time to compare sheep to us you will find similar qualities that resides in their character in us, that makes the parable the good shepherd and his sheep make more sense. I feel we all understand that God is our shepherd, he takes care of us and we are his sheep, we follow him. Jesus says in John 10

” Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I math gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes in only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” – John 10:7-11

The qualities of sheep are as follows:

  • Sheep have no defense mechanisms
  • Sheep have a hard time finding food and water
  • Sheep are easily frightened
  • Sheep do not have any senses of direction
  • Sheep cannot clean themselves very well.

Now, if you compare a wolf to a sheep or a lizard what do the wolf and lizard have in common? You guessed it they have defense mechanisms just like many of the other animals out Lord has created. Sheep are very weak and cannot manage on their own. Sheep DEPEND solely on the shepherd for food and water. When they are frightened they can do tons of things that can put themselves in danger like, eat something that can harm them. They do not have a sense of direction so they cannot lead themselves; being led by the shepherd helps keeps them safe, healthy, happy and clean.

If you think about it we are just like sheep without Jesus (Our shepherd) we won’t be able to defend ourselves, have food or water and we become fearful. Us believers depend on God to protect us  which he does just like he protected King David. He sustains us by supplying us with food, water and shelter. we all know that without his leading we get lost because we can’t lead ourselves. We just like sheep are unclean by nature but we are cleansed by the washing of Christ Jesus'( our Shepherd) blood.

We as believer like to lead ourselves to much and say that God is leading us. When the shepherd is leading us everything will go right and exactly how it is supposed to. We won’t be fearful or fret because being under the leading of our Shepherd we know that we are safe. If we get lost (go on our on way) or the thief try to come and kill, steal ad destroy. Our shepherd will lay down his life to protect us. (By the way he has played down his life for us already)

Are you letting Christ lead you like only a shepherd can or are you lost because you’re trying to lead yourself? I encourage you to read John 10:1-18

I leave you with this bible verse:

“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen” – Hebrews 13: 20-21

What will You Choose?

“What a person believes in he will die for. What a person merely thinks, she will change her mind about”.- Walk Thru The Bible

I commend my brothers and sisters in Christ who are dying for their faith in Christ! Now I do not condone them being killed but the fact that they stood firm in their faith and ultimately died for it I feel is something to commend. I Know they will have an abundance in heaven. Jesus died for us shouldn’t we do the same for him? Would you do the same if your life was on the line? Jesus told us what will happen when he was on the Mount of Olives. He told the future he said many will come in his name, you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. But do not to be alarmed because these things will need to happen. However, the end is still to come, nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. Matthew 24:6-8.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.” – Matthew 24:9-14

Will you be the one who stands firm to the end or the one who will turn away from the faith? My brothers and sisters in Christ we ARE LIVING IN THE END TIMES. Now is the time not later to get right and rid ourselves of whatever it is that is holding you back from wholeheartedly and faithfully obeying God and walking on that narrow path. The time will come when you will have to make a choice, to live in this world and deny Christ or to die and have eternal life with Christ.

Which will you choose?

God Bless

Quote Of The Day

“The degree of our spiritual vigor has much to do with how much time we spend in God’s word. ” – Walk Thru The Bible

God’s word convicts but we have to make sure we commit ourselves to doing his will. What area(s) in your life have you been focusing on your will instead of God’s will?

Make a goal today to start committing that area(s) to God and ask him in prayer to help you.
