Idol gods, What are you really worshiping?

whats-your-idol-idol-idolatry

Romans 1:21-23,25 ” For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to  be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.  They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator who is forever praised. Amen.”

I encourage you to take sometime to ask yourself the questions in the image above. It has been brought to my attention that history Biblically is repeating itself. The Israelites in the old testament of the bible only obeyed God for the lifetime of the judges that were raised by God. After each judge would die they would go back and start Idol worshiping even though they knew it was a sin. In modern times we too partake in a lot of idol worship.

In my religion class I am taking this semester we have talked about and tried to explain what religion is. which we have found to be very complicated to explain and define. One reason being is that different things can be considered a religion like baseball and basket ball, which can also be idol worship.

In Class we break down religion into different questions and aspects, What is religion, how do you define it in psychological, sociological,  and cultural anthropological approaches among a few others. If you keep an open mind about this you will learn that many could say that for example baseball is a religion. You go to a facility to see the game you worship your favorite team like you would go to church to worship God. You keep up with the how the team is doing during the season. You wear symbols that represent the team you’re rooting for and/or the players number and have your face and car and even your home decorated with symbols and colors of your favorite team. You also do the same with God when you wear shirts with bible verses and bumper stickers on you cars. You in a way rebuke those who like another team example browns and steelers fans. (Yes I know that is football but i used that to make a point. I do not know much about baseball to be able to make the same point where you will understand exactly what I am talking about).

Do you see the similarities or do I need to go on? The only difference would be that you focus on these teams and the stats more than you focus on the Lord. Do you consider yourself a die-hard fan for the lakers or the Yankees or he cowboys? Does God fit into that or is he secondary to that?

You see so many people out here claiming that they love the Lord yet you mostly only hear and see worldly things come out of their mouths and behavior. You are worshiping the things God has made (Celebrities, sports, money, etc.) more than you are worshiping him with makes you idolaters. If you ask people even believers what they can live without they will name material things not God. Or they will name God and then material things. Is not God the only thing we need??

Is God a priority in your life?   What can’t you live without?   “Do you have a dream you would sacrifice everything to realize?”-  Life Application Bible

God tells us to mediate on his word everyday and every night, this is what will keep us from idolatry and from sin.

Joshua 1:8 NIV “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night. so that you may be carful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

If you wanna be successful and prosperous and always keep God a priority in your life, then meditate on his word day and night and “BE A DOER OF HIS WORD NOT JUST A LISTENER!”- Cornelius Lindesy

God Bless
